Japanese manga artist Nakajo Hisaya (中条比紗也) passed away two weeks ago, announced publisher Hakusensha (白泉社) on its official website today. Nakajo died of a “heart-related illness.”

Below is a translation of Hakusensha’s condolence message from today from her publisher, Hakusensha.


Manga artist Nakajo Hisaya Sensei passed away on 12.10.2023 at 20:52. She was 50 years old.

(まんが家の中条比紗也先生が、2023年10月12日20時52分、心臓のご病気のため、ご逝去されました。享年50歳でした。)

We express our greatest respect and thanks to Nakajo Sensei’s works and pray for her to find happiness in the next life. A funeral service was held by her family.

Nakajo Sensei authored numerous masterpieces on Hana to Yume (花とゆめ)* such as “Hanazakari no Kimitachi e” +. Her last piece on Trifle by Hana to Yume was “Himitsu – Hanazakari no Kimitachi e After School.”

Nakajo was born on September 12th, 1973, in Osaka.

Her most celebrated work “Hanazakari no Kimitachi e” (English: For You in Full Blossom), published in 1997 sold over 17 million copies, and was adapted into a TV series in 2007.
