Support the UJ Journalism Fund

In the age of disinformation, publications like ours are struggling to make ends meet. Many sites are throwing up paywalls and locking down content.

We’ve tried that. We hate it. Frankly, we’d rather our work be free for everyone.

That’s why we’ve created the UJ Journalism Fund. By contributing to the Fund, you help our small group of translators and journalists cover breaking news about Japan  – from cool culture to the country’s continuously evolving society – that you won’t regularly read in the English language mainstream media.

You can make a recurring or a one-time donation to help fund our work below.

Why support the UJ Journalism Fund?

We’re a small, scrappy group of creator, translators, and working journalists with some big ambitions. We want to expand our current crop of articles and videos to bring you more content we think you’ll love:

  • More translations of experts, activists, entertainers, and regular citizens whose voices you wouldn’t otherwise hear in English – particularly more marginalized voices
  • More work from authors with Japanese heritage
  • More, longer, better-produced videos
  • More tours around truly “unseen” places of Japan – particularly outside of the usual tourist hot spots
