Kristina Rin Fujikake

Kristina Fujikake is a writer, kimono stylist, educator, and tourism professional living in Osaka, Japan. Born to a half-Japanese father and raised in Metro Detroit’s longstanding Japanese community, she grew up navigating multiple cultural worlds — including not realizing “beansprouts” even had an English name until university.

She is a certified kimono teacher and stylist, has completed intermediate-level Shinto shrine maiden training, and works in Japan’s tourism industry as a guide and coordinator specializing in cultural experiences. She is also the sole proprietor of her own kimono business.

Her writing focuses on Nikkei identity, Japanese society, language, religion, traditional culture, and the gap between romanticized and lived experiences of Japan.
